Against
the background of rising global incidences
of general peacelessness marked by pockets of ethnic and inter-tribal wars,
insurgencies, religion-backed and sponsored killings going on unabated,
pockets of theaters of wars across the globe, especially between some nations
of the world, as well as among individual but composite ethnic nationalities
within and between nation-states and countries the world over, the well known,
globally acclaimed and respected peace-oriented Muslim organization, the
Ahmadiyya Jama'at, Nigerian branch (Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama'at of Nigeria) have
once again reiterated and prescribed five (5) principles and teachings of the
Holy Quran as recipe for the attainment and entrenchment of both national and
global peace in the world.
The principles - Equality of all men and women before God (Allah); Equity and Justice to all irrespective of race, colour, religion, social status or gender; Recognition of the existence and equal survival rights that exists between the weaker/stronger, the richer/poorer persons or nations on mother Earth; Avoidance of envy of any sort and putting aside of vested interests, with emphasis channeled instead towards helping and serving the needs of the less privileged ones among us, and respect for the rights of the less developed nations among us too, and where adamant, blatant breaches and transgressions of the aforementioned principles occur, the need for general and public condemnation and imposition of strict, punitive measures on defaulters, as a form of deterrent and warning to others to avoid dealing unjustly and cruely to anyone or any group in all their activities to humanity in the presence of God (Allah).
Making
these recommendations recently at a world press conference addressed by the
Managing Director, Muslim Television Ahmadiyya (MTA), Sir, Munir-ud-Din Shams
in the presence of some top echelon of the Ahmadiyya movement in Nigeria, viz
Alhaji Barr. Folorunsho AbdulAzeez Alatoye, the AMIR, National Head, Ahmadiyya
Muslim Jama'at of Nigeria; Umar Safir, a Director with Muslim Television Africa
(MTA Africa) and Qasim Akinreti, Coordinator, MTA Nigeria Studios, and other
notable Muslim clerics and scholars, the group posited that the refusal by
individuals, organizations, nations to respect and apply the aforementioned
principles in both their personal, national and international relationships,
was the bane of peace globally, especially in crisis-torn-apart hot spots of
the world.
According to the managing director of the Muslim-owned and privately-run television station, the world is currently experiencing "turbulent times where global economic crisis continues to manifest newer and graver dangers, with the happenings of today bearing striking resemblances to happenings prior to the periods which led to the eruption of the 2nd world war, and still palpable till date...with the world moving at an unprecedented pace towards a horrific 3rd world war."
In
the light of the above, Sir, Munir-ud-Din Shams said that only the application
of the "Qur'anic Principles (as highlighted above), and adherence to the
Holy Book's "teachings for world leadership and peace," remain the recipe
for the challenges confronting the world."
Cascading the narratives to our national challenges and the way out, the managing director of MTA International said it was important and time-imperative for the Nigerian government, the media and Nigerians in general to imbibe the strong culture of peaceful and harmonious co-existence among the diverse ethnic and religious backgrounds that characterize Nigeria. "More importantly, the (Nigerian) government must strive to ensure transparent, just and good governance at all the tiers of government. Viable economic reforms should be pursued and realized in the best interest.....
