PDP Gradually Emptying-up, following Mass Exodus Of Over 300 Members In Ofu LGA, Kogi State

By Our Correspondent

As the internal crisis of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) continues to grow, and fester without a foreseeable reprieve or resolution, a gradual emptying of the party in terms of its membership strength has unwittingly began across all levels. Without a doubt, all is not well with the opposition with the escalating mass exodus of key players, the latest being some of the prominent former political office holders in Ofu Local Government Area of Kogi State.

Following the resignation of the party’s Senatorial candidate in the 2023 general elections - Hon. Victor Adoji, who is also from the affected local government, the forum of Local Government Chairmen and Political Office Holders who held sway in the state between 2004—2016 have in a sweep, resigned their memberships of the party and moved enmass to join the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) in the state.

The Resignees from the forum of these past leaders include: Hon. Obetule Emele Emmanuel (JP), Council Leader; Hon. Ochidi Danjuma, Supervisor; Hon. Sumaila Aruwa, Councilor, Hon. Ibrahim Attah, Supervisor; Hon. Daniel Mamudu, Councilor; Hon. Danmusa Ainoko, Supervisor and  Hon. Salisu Usman, Supervisor and Hon. Samson Abraham, Councilor.

Others include Hon. Emmanuel Odoh, Councilor: Hon. Alex Iyaji, Councilor; Hon. Sumaila Shaibu, Councilor; Hon. Philip Usman, Councilor; Hon. Danusa Igah, Councilor; Hon. Halimat Yunusa, Councilor; Hon. Godwin Etuh, Councilor; Hon. Gabriel Ohiemi, Special Advisor; Hon. Abdul Attah, Special Advisor; Hon. Hassan Usman, Special Advisor; Hon. Danusa Pius Ocheja, Special Advisor; Hon. John Tokula, Special Advisor; Engr. Gabriel Itanyi, Special Advisor and Hon. Abdullahi Nuhu, Special Assistant, among others.

However, while the ruling APC party will officially welcome the aforementioned stakeholders into the party shortly, Mr. Adoji’s next party is still unknown and it’s undoubtedly the reason why few other stakeholders are still staying put. Albeit, copies of the various resignation letters already in public domain attributed their decisions be it individually or collectively to one critical factor – “personal ground,” while empirical facts suggest that the mass exodus of the opposition stakeholders in the local government is not unconnected to observed high-handedness, self interest and profiteering attitude of the existing excos of the party.

It was alleged that from some quarters that ordinarily, the party has all it takes to win elections at all levels in the state save for the excos pecuniary interests. A source who spoke on condition of anonymity vehemently stated that, the excos extinguished PDP’s candle light in Ofu with their relentless priority of money and other personal gains to the detriment of the overall interest of the party…more revelations coming. Keep a date.
